The Salsa Truck

I've been following this truck since way back in September. At that time they were predicting hitting the streets in about a month. My how time flies!

Fast forward to January 31st, when The Salsa Truck became the first officially licensed on-board cooking truck in Chicago.

Schwing!

And so it was with great pleasure that I was able to land this historic truck and scratch another name off my hit list. It's been just shy of two months since scoring my last new truck. Need to step up my game.

Now this is only the second time I've been to the Lake & Wabash "food truck stand." Certainly not the best setup and it's extremely loud over there with the train running frequently overhead.

Regardless, the lunch rush quickly stacked up as we waited for the goods.

My haul? The taco lunch: carne asada taco, two salsas, chips and a drink. And then a chorizo taco for good measure.

I did have to remind Dan of my rules, as he tried to give me my lunch for free. Sorry pal. Gotta pay for the first visit. But add-ons are just fine. An extra salsa? Suh-weet!

The tacos are just what you're looking for: corn tortilla, meat, onions and cilantro. The genuine article.

In total, I tried three salsas: the house salsa, tomatillo and chipotle and salsa roja. All three were tasty, but I liked the subtle char from the roasted tomatoes in the salsa roja best.

Total mission count with this stop? Six: The Next 50, Moo, Oink, Wrap, Noobs, No Cheese. #winning

Congrats on dotting your i's, crossing your t's, jumping through hoops, and whatever else you did to claim that first coveted license. Here's hoping more trucks can follow suit.
